FORT MYERS, Fla. -- An investigation into Fort Myers Police Department captain Jay Rodriguez will be handled by state attorney's from outside Southwest Florida.
The State Attorney's Office of the 20th district has requested a governor's assignment in the case. As a result, two state attorneys from outside the Fort Myers area will handle the case. It's to try and prevent any bias from entering the investigation.
In his department role, Rodriguez has worked with local state attorneys on cases for years. Right now, he's being investigated for perjury and engaging in a sex act during a prostitution sting.
