FORT MYERS, Fla — Captain Jay Rodriguez has retired from the Fort Myers Police Department after being arrested following an investigation into accusations that he engaged in a sex act with a prostitute while on duty during a massage parlor investigation.

Rodriguez retires after almost thirty years of public service with the United States Coast Guard and the Fort Myers Police Department.

He submitted his retirement letter to Police Chief Derrick Diggs on Monday, one day before the Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested him. His retirement will go into effect Wednesday September 18th.

Retired New Jersey Police Chief Walt Zalisko said if Rodriguez is found guilty, he'll lose the City of Fort Myers' annual contribution to his pension which started when he joined the force 25 years ago.
