FORT MYERS, Fla. - A woman took to Facebook after her son was arrested for bringing a loaded gunto school Wednesday.

The 16-year-old freshman, who we aren't identifying because of his age, is facing multiple charges - including possession of a weapon on school property, possession of a weapon by a delinquent, and escape..

The Lee County Sheriff's Office said he was in an altercation with another student Tuesday involving verbal threats, and when he got to school Wednesday, a teacher said he was acting up.

His backpack was searched. That's when a loaded gun was found in his bag.

His mom didn't want to comment when Four in Your Corner stopped by her home, but she did post a public Facebook Live video sharing her thoughts on what happened.

"I don't even know where {he} got that gun from. I don't know who's selling these kids guns, bro, but you guys need to stop selling these kids these guns," she said.

She said her son has been in and out of juvenile detention and also mentioned he had a brain injury.

"If he took the gun to shook it was meant for something," his mom said in the video.

Other parents with students at South Fort Myers High School were shocked.

"It's terrible. It’s really terrible. I don’t really have words,” Arturo Aleman said.

“I was scared, and a lot of other kids were, too, when we were all talking about it and the teacher told us,” his daughter, Kathy Mendoza said. "Wonder if I was next, if any of us are next."

The Principal of South Fort Myers High School said the student was only on campus a few minutes before they found the weapon in his bag.

"I would have been really scared if something tragic did happen," Mendoza said.

The student's mom said in the Facebook Live video she had no idea when she took him to school this morning that a gun was inside his bag. She also apologized to the student her son got into an altercation with and said she wants her son to get help.

"I'm not going turn my back on mine, but I do want to stop him from doing all this stuff," she said.

The Sheriff's Office said the student also tried to run away after he was put in handcuffs.
