LEE COUNTY, Fla. - A ninth grade student is under arrest after Lee County deputies said they found a loaded firearm in his backpack.
The 16-year-old was arrested Wednesday morning at South Fort Myers High School.
The student had an altercation with another student Tuesday and made verbal threats against that student, deputies said. This information led to an administrative search Wednesday, when the weapon was found.
The student allegedly tried to run from a Student Resource Officer after being handcuffed, but was caught. He was charged with possession of a weapon on school property, possession of weapon by a delinquent and escape.
