FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A local dog rescue is hoping you will open your heart -- and your home -- to a dog in need.

"Do you love dogs? Do you love saving a life? All you've got to do is provide the love,” Samantha Kellum of Love is Fur Ever Dog Rescue said.

She is a foster mom for dogs the rescue saves. And she said they need more people who are willing to foster dogs, some with severe medical issues.

Fox 4 has introduced you to four dogs Love is Fur Ever has taken in. Gabriel was abused and tortured.

Bradley Cooperwas severely neglected.

Hank the Tank and Ham Bonewere both hit by cars, left with broken femurs to fend for themselves.

The Rescue has spent more than $70,000 to make these dogs healthy again.

They said they want to help more dogs like these -- severe, medical cases that typically no one else wants -- but there's one issue.

"We could rescue more if we had more foster people," Judith Woerler, who fosters for the rescue, said. “People who are not only willing to say ‘OK, we’ll foster,’ but people who are actually willing to make the commitment, because it’s not just taking in a cute puppy. Sometimes they’re broken, and they need some healing."

Love is Fur Ever Dog Rescue said all you would need to do if you decide to foster is love these dogs, and help them heal. They will provide everything else.

"We pay for everything. Vet visits. If you’re working and there’s a vet appointment, we’ll try to find one of us who can get the dog and take it for appointments. The heart worm medication, all the medications, the food. Everything is provided. A bed. All you've got to do is take them in and show them what being a dog is all about," Kellum said.
