Lehigh Acres man gets 10 years for 2018 crash that led to the death of passenger

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lehigh Acres man has been sentenced to 127 months in prison and three years state probation for the charges involving a fatal crash in 2018.

The State Attorney's Office says that 20-year-old Rudy Ayala lost control of his car that crashed into a canal. A passenger in the car, 20-year-old Enize Garza, was critically injured in the crash and later died from her injuries.

Ayala was charged with DUI Manslaughter, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Marijuana.

In addition to the prison time and probation, he also had his driver’s license suspended for life. Ayala will also pay a $5,000 fine and court costs plus attend a DUI school and go through a substance abuse evaluation and counseling.
