FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Fort Myers Police Department has extra officers at the Edison Mall after a shooting threat made Thursday night.
According to a press release, the threat was received through a confidential tip line. Out of an abundance of caution, officers in marked cars and undercover circled the mall Friday.
"We have to be careful where we got," said Miriam Yassin-Gomez, who shops at the mall with her sister. "I'm just surprised in the mall — wow."
The department declined to do an interview, but a sergeant at the mall told Fox 4 they have new surveillance cameras in response to the threat.
"It gives you a good sense of safety," said John Coriell, a shopper.
Despite extra security on the ground and in the air, some people are still feeling uneasy about this threat, and others one shopper says is happening more often.
"Sometimes it would make my dad nervous, sometimes it makes my mom nervous," said Robert Fox.
"You just stay looking over your shoulder once you hear a gun threat somewhere," said Justin Garcia.
The nerves of it is something Yassin-Gomez says she will look past.
"Before I go out from my house, I just say thank you God and I pray before I leave my house and I walk and I don’t worry," she said.
Fox 4 has requested the police report from FMPD to find out more about the threat. We're still waiting for the request to be fulfilled. The Edison Mall provided a statement about the threat.
