FORT MYERS, Fla. — Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno released a "Message to the Community"on Facebook Thursday afternoon - a gesture law enforcement agencies and businesses have done following protests against racial injustice.

In part, he said:

"I have ZERO TOLERANCE for any person(s) who commits an act of violence or attempts to cause harm to my deputies, while conducting their lawful performance of duty. They WILL be overcome, using the force reasonably necessary."

Unlike other local law enforcement leadership including the Fort Myers Police Department and the Collier County Sheriff's Office, Marceno did not address the death of George Floyd.

Instead, the sheriff focused on law enforcement and nationwide protests.
