Everglades City files lawsuit against against former mayor

EVERGLADES CITY, Fla. — Everglades City just filed a lawsuit against its former mayor.

The city is asking for $15,000 in damages, related to a criminal case, that involves Sammy Hamilton.

Hamilton is charged with misusing taxpayer dollars and is looking at 16 counts of official misconduct and one count of grand theft.

Earlier this week, a Collier County Circuit Court judge granted his motion for a competency evaluation.
