CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Neighbors say their trash has sat out so long it's killing their grass. Now, after several complaints of Waste Pro not picking up trash throughout Cape Coral, Councilwoman Jennifer Nelson is expected to address the issue.

“It’s disappointing," said one neighbor. She tells Fox 4 she's called six times but her trash still remains in her front yard. "You know, they ask us to follow specific rules and 'hey give us a call and we’ll be out in a few days.'”

Other neighbors say the summer heat and the trash create a stinky mess.

“With the summer heat, these cans, they bake," explained William Roth. "It’s just the smell gets bad."

Councilwoman Nelson wrote this post on her Facebook page:

"Thank you to my Waste Pro driver, Jay, for taking the time this morning to educate me on trash issues from his perspective. I will be giving a full report during my report time at the 6/18 council meeting. So stay tuned. In the mean time, please bag up your loose trash prior to placing it in your cans. And look at places where you can donate household and C&D (construction and demolition) items vs throwing them away. This will help tremendously save time and money."

A spokesperson for Waste Pro told Fox 4, thelack of pickups were due to the Memorial Holidayweekend. 4 in your corner followed up with the spokesperson explaining the neighbors concerns began before the holiday. We did not get a response.
