CAPE CORAL, Fla. — As the 2020 election heats up, Political yard signs are the target of vandals.
Earlier this month, we told you of a Fort Myers neighborhood being the target of stolen Trump Pence signs.
The Lee County Democratic Party says a growing number of people have been calling them with complaints of democratic signs being either damaged or stolen.
On Sunday, Lois Piskorz woke up to find several of her signs had been plucked from her Northeast Cape Coral home.
“I came out, two of them were lying across the street in the grass, and the Biden signs were completely gone,” said Piskorz.
Piskorz replaced the Biden Harris signs that were stolen from her property and moved the signs closer to her door, so they’re harder to steal.
“They’re not going to scare me; I’m going to continue to show my support,” said Piskorz.
But Piskorz is not the only one who says their signs have been messed with.
Gabriele Spuckes, Chair of the Democratic Party of Lee County, says they’ve received dozens of stolen yard signs complaints.
“People that are here today working and volunteering here, they take theirs inside now because they were stolen so many times,” said Spuckes.
“I think it’s because we’re getting closer to the election, so I think people are feeling very strong about how they feel and what party theirs is.”
Piskorz says she believes everyone should have the freedom to support whoever they choose peacefully.
“Yard signs don’t win an election, and taking them down, they’re not going to stop people from voting for that person,” said Piskorz.
