LABELLE, Fla. — The Florida Forest Service (FFS) said a fire burned about five acres on Pinetree Circle in Port LaBelle.
The fire was near several homes, but FFS said it's contained at this time.
WATCH: Neighbors react after large fire burns next to Port LaBelle homes on Friday:
Hunter Morris and his fiancé live right on Pinetree Circle. Morris said they were on the couch Friday afternoon when someone banged on their door.
Morris said he stepped outside and saw a "blanket of fire right across the street."
"It was above the trees basically, you could see how high it was," Morris said. "And yeah, it was insane.”
Morris said he grabbed a garden hose and sprayed the street to stop flames from advancing. He wasn't the only one. Other neighbors grabbed hoses and started spraying, Morris said.
At least one home's front lawn was partially burnt.
LaBelle Fire Lt. Caleb Polhill told FOX 4 the fire is contained. He did not say how the fire started or when crews arrived.

Like much of Southwest Florida, Hendry County is in a moderate drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
FOX 4 Meteorologist Andrew Shipley said the nearest weather gauge shows the neighborhood received 8 1/2 inches of rain less than normal over the past year.
Neighbors shared photos and videos with FOX 4 that showed a large cloud of smoke hang over the street.
This is a developing story.
