UPDATE 1:15 P.M.:
According to a new police report, the suspect said he heard voices telling him to shoot his father.
In the court documents, it said deputies were originally called because they saw someone pulling someone out of a car, then they heard gunshots. The person who called said someone was in the driveway bleeding.
He was sent to the hospital, but the report said he died.
As deputies rushed to the scene, they said the suspect, later identified as Melquan Stewart, took off in a car, which was registered to his dad.
The report said Stewart came back to the scene to turn himself in and detectives detained him for questioning.
When he came back in the car, deputies said there was blood in it and they found a gun on the passenger floorboard.
The sheriff's office talked to Stewart and said he had been living at a home in Charlotte County for about four months.
Stewart said his dad had come to his house earlier in the day to make his son "show him documentation to prove that he was working on getting his military paperwork," the report said.
The report said Melquan explained that his dad had been on his case to get a job and to start paying his own rent. He said his dad had been paying it for him for the past four months.
In the court documents, Stewart said he walked out to his dad's car and saw his dad in the driver seat. Stewart said he put his backpack in the backseat and "then heard voices telling him to shoot the victim."
According to deputies, Stewart said he listened to the voices for the first time and started shooting his dad through the rolled down front passenger window.
The report said Stewart shot his dad six times.
Then, deputies said Stewart's dad put the car in reverse to try and get away. The report said Stewart was run over, but then pulled his dad from the car.
According to the police report, Stewart put his dad on the driveway, shot him one more time and then "placed his arms over his chest and told him that he loved him."
Deputies said Stewart got into the car and used his phone to get directions to Miami. When he got to Kings Highway, Stewart said he pulled over and wanted to go back to make sure EMS had gotten to his dad.
When Stewart got back, he told deputies he shot his dad.
He is now charged with second-degree murder. Stewart does not have a criminal record.
