Two people dead following murder-suicide in Cape Coral

The woman, who police say was in her mid-30s, was rushed to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

UPDATE THURSDAY 1:30 P.M.

Police have identified the man and woman killed on Wednesday morning.

Detectives say 34-year-old D'angelo Gilliam shot and killed his ex-girlfriend as they were having a custody exchange of two children.

The woman killed, according to police, is 34-year-old Tiffiani Starkey.

The Cape Coral Police Department says a child drop off turned deadly when a man shot a woman - then later took his own life.

Police say this happened at the 1700 block of SE 12th Street.

Investigators say during the exchange, the woman went inside of the house.

When she came out, the suspect shot her.

The department says the suspect then drove off with the kids in the car - eventually making contact with nearby firefighters.

The children, police say, were left with the firefighters.

First responders believe the suspect was suffering from some type of "mental issue", and say he had threatened to take his own life.

Investigators say he then drove off and stopped - as police and firefighters called him.

Officers say the suspect shot himself, and his car rolled into a canal.

The Cape Coral Police Department says one of their own jumped in after him, but the suspect was already dead.

The woman, who police say was in her mid-30s, was rushed to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead.

This is an isolated-domestic incident.

Next of kin has not been notified; therefore, the names of those involved have not been released.
