Suspect found in Cape Coral break-in

A man has been arrested for cutting a Cape Coral homeowner's screen, ransacking their garage and stealing more than $700 worth of items.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A man has been arrested for cutting a Cape Coral homeowner's screen, ransacking their garage and stealing more than $700 worth of items.

Investigator say Joel Tucker Willin, 34, burglarized a homeowner's residence by cutting out a screen and unlocking the door.

Police say Willin ransacked the garage, the victim's car, and stole more than $750 worth of belongings.

Officers say when they arrive on scene, Willin exited the home and fled.

He was spotted in the mangroves near a canal, and was seen soaking wet.

Detectives found a ski mask, headlamp, shoe and bicycle that linked Willin to the crime.

Joel Willin was arrested and charged with the following:

--1 count in violation of F.S.S. 810.02(3a), Burglary of an occupied dwelling, unarmed

--1 count in violation of F.S.S. 810.02(4b), Burglary of unoccupied conveyance

--1 count in violation of F.S.S. 812.014(2)(c)(1), Grand Theft $750 or more but less than $5,000

--1 count in violation of F.S.S. 843.02, Resist Officer Without Violence

The Cape Coral Police Department is seeking video footage following a Wednesday morning burglary.

Police say the break-in happened on 45th Street and Pelican Boulevard at 3:13 a.m inside the garage of the home.
