NEW: Two teenagers charged in Cape Coral arsons at park and church

Cape Coral police say they arrested the teenagers and charged them with several crimes including arson, possession of a controlled substance, and desecration of a flag.

16-year-old Preston Witten is charged with:

  • 3 counts in violation of F.S.S. 806.01(1), First-Degree Arson
  • 3 counts in violation of F.S.S. 806.13(1b3), Criminal Mischief $1,000+
  • 1 count in violation of F.S.S. 876.52, Desecration of a Flag
  • 1 count in violation of 893.13(6a) Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • 1 count in violation of F.S.S. 562.111 Possession of Alcohol Under 21

15-year-old Kryzalynn McClenithan is charged with:

  • 3 counts in violation of F.S.S. 806.01(1), First-Degree Arson
  • 3 counts in violation of F.S.S. 806.13(1b3), Criminal Mischief $1,000+
  • 1 count in violation of F.S.S. 876.52, Desecration of a Flag
  • 1 count in violation of F.S.S. 893.13(6a), Possession of Controlled Substance

Police say the pair set fires in the men's and women's restrooms at Pelican Baseball Complex on Wednesday.

According to a police statement, "Security footage showed a male and a female entering the bathrooms around 2:05 a.m. After they entered, smoke was seen billowing out of the bathrooms."

Early Thursday morning, police say Witten and McClenithan went back to the sports complex and started fires in garbage cans, and lit a table and an American flag on fire.

Police say the teenagers also went to Cape Christian Church where they ignited a church T-shirt and a sign.

They were arrested Thursday afternoon when they went back to the church and someone called police, according to investigators.

Police say McClenithan was in possession of 54 grams of marijuana and Witten was in possession of alcohol while under the age of 21. They say he also had a THC vape.

UPDATE 2:56 p.m.

Cape Coral Police said they found the teens they were looking for earlier on Thursday.

It's not clear if they are responsible for the arson or if they have information about them.

Fox 4 is looking to learn more about the case.

The Cape Coral Police Department says there have been two cases of arson during the last two days, and they're actively looking to speak with two people about these events.
