FORT MYERS, Fla — What's happening right now is difficult. And whether it's stimulus money or unemployment benefits, it may seem like the help is not coming quickly enough.
So let's pick up the pace.
“We know immediately people need to get hired," Megan Rose, Better Together CEO says. "They need to pay their bills.”
Fox 4 is teaming up with Better Together to make sure you about, and are ready for a virtual job fair on April 30. For a week leading up to the job fair, we will have stories about resources and tips you can use to put yourself in the best possible shape for getting a job. We call it "Back to Work Boot Camp."
You start by registering. Go to this page on the Better Together website. At the bottom, you'll find a place to add your name and email address. And that's all, you're signed up.
But you're not ready yet.
You will need Zoom, that's how you will video conference with the hiring managers. You can download the app on your phone or your computer, and you can use either for the job fair.
And you will need to go here, to see a list of companies and job openings. Before the job fair, you can sign up for the jobs you're interested in. So when the job fair begins, you will go into a virtual room with the company's hiring manager and a group of other applicants. The recruiter will have a presentation and you will be able to ask questions. Then, you will have the opportunity to go into a separate virtual room for a one-on-one interview.
“And so a lot of our employers are hiring on the spot,” Rose says.
These are good jobs too. We'll tell you about them and give you tips about updating your resume and how to ace a virtual interview in future Back to Work Boot Camp segments.
During the job fair, there will be volunteers to help you through the process. Neil Volz will be one of them. He works with Florida Rights Restoration Association. He says if you feel down and hopeless about not having a job, he's been in your shoes.
“And this job fair offers that hope," he says. "I know what that was like being unemployed and wondering around nervous and scared about what my future held. And it was that moment of getting that job that allowed me to take some steps forward."
