CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The Cape Coral Police responded to a call regarding a person pinned under a vehicle.

Cape Coral Police say a newspaper delivery vehicle was traveling northbound on SE 21st Ave in the 3600 block of SE 21st Ave. The driver thought she put the vehicle in park but mistakenly placed the vehicle in reverse.

Maria Elena Real De Mirabilio exited the vehicle, not realizing it was in reverse, and was knocked to the ground by her vehicle.

The vehicle's front left wheel then rolled over her left leg and pinned her to the ground.

De Mirabilio was trapped under the vehicle's wheel for an unknown length of time until she was discovered by a neighbor who was leaving for work.

De Mirabilio was removed from under the vehicle by the Cape Coral Fire Department and was transported to a local hospital by Lee County EMS.

The injuries were initially thought to be life-threatening but were later downgraded to non-life-threatening by attending medical personnel.

Alcohol/drugs are not a factor in this traffic crash.
