LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Cape Coral family witnessed a memorable encounter with the world's largest fish in the Gulf of Mexico this week.
Renee Cianciolo shared her video of the experience, which she says was recorded 35 miles off Boca Grande on Wednesday.
She says they were fishing for snapper and grouper offshore and that the pod of five whale sharks surrounded them.
After returning home, they reported the sighting and their location to Mote Marine in Sarasota, who have been tracking this pod after numerous sightings off the west coast of Florida.
