SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. -- The Vice President and Second Lady arrived to Southwest Florida, Thursday, for an eight day vacation.

Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, will vacation in Sanibel Island until next Friday. They arrived at Southwest Florida International Airport around 2 P.M. The couple's motorcade briefly shut down the Sanibel Causeway Thursday afternoon, as crowds watched.

The Vice President has vacationed on the island for years. Last year, traffic was impacted during his first visit as the VP. Secret service would shut down streets the family traveled, then opened them back up to the public after passing.

Florida Highway Patrol and the Lee County Sheriff's Office will assist with traffic. When the couple leaves April 6th, travelers can expect another shutdown on the Sanibel Causeway, and possibly very light delays at RSW, as flight restrictions are in place.

According to the FAA, No pilots may operate an aircraft in those areas while those restrictions are in place. However, commercial flights will still be able to take off and land during this time.

Law enforcement, firefighting, and medical flights are also allowed to fly through the restricted airspace as well.
