Pedestrians injured when car veers onto sidewalk in Cape Coral

Two pedestrians were seriously injured Sunday afternoon when a car veered onto the sidewalk during a crash, hitting several pedestrians.

It happened shortly after 2:00 p.m., Sunday on Del Prado Boulevard near Cornwallis Parkway.

Cape Coral Police have arrested 37-year-old Colleen Mulder on DUI charges for causing the crash.

Police say she was driving south on Del Prado when she rear-ended an SUV, causing it to veer onto the sidewalk.  The SUV hit two pedestrians, a street sign, and several newspaper boxes.

The pedestrians sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. 

"One of the ladies was on the ground.  The other lady, the car was dragging her almost 30 feet," said witness Vilat Phanitdasack. "Her leg as all mangled up and the other lady was on the ground, bleeding from the nose, the head down." 

Mulder showed signs of impairment at the scene and was taken into custody.

Blood tests showed she had a blood-alcohol content of .226%, nearly triple the legal limit.

 Mulder was charged with Driving Under the Influence .15 or Higher, two counts of DUI w/Serious Bodily Injury, and three counts of DUI w/Property Damage.
