CAPE CORAL, Fla. - A Facebook post got some attention. The shared post showed an upside stop sign on Burnt Store Road and Kismet Parkway. At first, people wondered if a construction crew made a mistake.
"It caught my attention pretty quickly," Kim Venditti said.
The City of Cape Coral said vandals are the culprits. A city spokesperson said two additional signs were also vandalized.
"These signs are there for a reason. They are there in order to make sure the public is safe," Connie Barron said. "Please leave them alone," she added.
The city sent out crews Monday morning to fix the signs.
"We would rather spend our time elsewhere than repair signs that have been damaged by vandals," Barron said.
However, whoever did it used power tools in order to turn the signs upside down.
"They had to work extremely hard to vandalize these particular signs," Barron said.
Cape Coral has had trouble in the past with vandalized signs.
"We've had some issue where stop signs were completely removed by vandals, that could wind up as tragic," Barron said.
It is against state statutes to mess with a sign in any manner.
