FORT MYERS, Fla. — Two female Florida panthers are dead after being hit by cars in southwest Florida. Last week, a pregnant 5-year-old panther died in Collier County and an 11-month-old panther died in Lee County a few days later.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said 17 panthers have been killed this year and most of the deaths are caused by vehicles. There are only about 120 to 130 Florida panthers left in the wild.
