People living in one Fort Myers apartment complex told Four in Your Corner trash has been piling up out of the garbage area and into the roadway, and this isn't the first time it's happened.

Fox 4 got called to the Westwood Apartments off Metro Parkway after we were sent multiple photos of the trash piling up. As we got there, the garbage was being hauled away, but people living there said this has happened three times in the last six months.

"Our trash is right there by the main road. Thousands of people see it every day. It's embarrassing," one woman who lives there told us.

She said a month ago, the pile of garbage was even higher.

"That was the worst," she said. "There had to have been close to 700-1,000 bags of trash."

"It smells really bad, honestly," Lucas Jussani, who lives in the complex, told Fox 4. "Sometimes, I don't even walk by it when I go to the bus stop. I go around it."

Neighbors said it's attracting critters, is a safety concern for children and is a health risk. They said management says the trash compactor is broken.

"That's about it, and it's hard to get management on the phone. They like to dodge bullets when it comes to stuff like this," she said.

She said she's called and emailed Westwood's corporate and regional offices several times, with no response.

"It's going to happen again. This is not the end," she said.

Four in Your Corner went into the office at Westwood. A staff member gave us a corporate phone number to call, but we haven't heard back yet.
