CAPE CORAL, Fla., -- Expect traffic congestion to pick up when the streetscape project blocks the area of SE 47th terrace and SE 8th Court. Business owners say it could get in the way of getting to your favorite Cape Coral spots.
"What I’ve been doing is just forewarning our customers and our affiliates that come to our office," said Farid Mustafa, who owns Professional Nursing Registry that sits right near the projects construction.
According to the City's website, a roundabout will be built in as a way to bring “needed infrastructure updates while heightening [Cape Coral's] appeal as an entertainment destination."
Nearby residents, like Jim Ianno, says he has to travel down the road nearly five to six times a day, but believes the construction is keeping other customers away.
“I think its definitely keeping a lot of people away that normally come through on a daily basis," said Ianno. "It’s been a pain in the neck to navigate other side streets to get through.”
Mustafa says the city has done a great job of communicating with business owners in the last couple of months and expects the construction to last two to four weeks.
The roads will be blocked beginning at 5:30 a.m. Monday.
