FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Fox 4 is working to break the silence surrounding the sexual misconduct allegations against Fort Myers Police Department Captain Jay Rodriguez.

This case is important to us is because law enforcement's role is to protect and serve you and when allegations like these surface from an outside source and there’s no comment from parties involved, it questions the credibility of the department.

Honor -Ethics - Accountability - Respect - Teamwork are the bold words on the Fort Myers Police Department’s building.

but some are starting to question the department's transparency with the community.

Here's a timeline of events:

Starting with March 14, 2013, when then Lieutenant Jay Rodriquez went undercover for a prostitution sting, and along with it an arrest report was made.

Fast forward 6 years, Sunday, February 10th, the body cam video was first released to fox 4.

Monday we started reaching out trying to get answers because the arrest report and video did not match up.

Fox 4 was told to contact the city manager.

Meantime, FMPD had requested the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate this case, no news organizations or the public were notified.

On tuesday, city and FMPD officials told us they couldn’t comment because this is an active investigation.

Fox 4 also found out city council members are demanding a public statement to be made.

Meantime, FDLE had begun it’s criminal investigation into Captain Jay Rodriguez, again, there is no public notification.

Wednesday, FMPD still refused to comment, but did tell FOX 4 Rodriguez had been placed on administrative leave, it is still unknown if it’s paid or unpaid.

It wasn’t until Thursday when FMPD sent out a release that the case is in the hands of FDLE, but it had little information.

This is a developing story.
