FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Some frustrated Lee County teachers showed up at some major intersections Monday.

"They need to listen to us", Susan Delago told Fox 4.

She and others gathered along Colonial Boulevard and Metro Parkway. Some wearing red shirts showing solidarity for the "Fund Our Future" movement recognized statewide.

Florida teachers are asking the state's legislature to consider allocating more funds to increase teacher salaries.

Kevin Daly is the president of the Teachers Association of Lee County. "Teachers are professionals, and they should be paid as such."

Daly says more and more teachers are leaving the profession, which is why pushing the legislature for more funding is important. "It's becoming more difficult to recruit and retain highly effective teachers."

The Lee County School District says it supports higher pay for teachers.

Lee County School Board Member Debbie Jordan, District 4, joined this group. Advocates were also joined by Superintendent Gregory Adkins.

"Teachers are our life blood. It's critically important that we have great teachers in every single classroom", Adkins told Fox 4.
