Suspected DUI driver smashes into Cape garage

Posted

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Cape Coral Police arrested one woman for allegedly smashing a car into a garage at a home on Gleason Parkway.

The crash happened early Monday. Police say 56-year-old Julie Milburn plowed into Nancy and Richard Yadon's silver Lexus SUV, while allegedly intoxicated. The car was launched 12 feet forward and destroyed the couple's garage. "There was a third party who kept the driver from leaving the scene of the accident," said Nancy. "So we'd like to thank that Good Samaritan for stopping the driver from leaving."

The couple tells 4 In Your Corner the crash is a reminder of how dangerous traffic can be in the area of Gleason Parkway and Pelican Boulevard. They describe two other crashes in the intersection, and how driver speed despite the 35 mph speed limit. "It's been a long term issue. Signage isn't good enough."

Four In Your Corner reached out to the Cape Coral Police Department to see what they are doing about traffic in the area. Corporal Phil Mullen says traffic units patrol the area. He sent the following statement:

Gleason Parkway has been targeted by our Traffic Unit for enforcement in the past, and Pelican Boulevard has been on the targeted enforcement list for the last several weeks as can be seen on our “Daily Traffic Enforcement Update” social media and website releases. This is just the Traffic Unit; Patrol performs traffic enforcement of course as well. Anyone with specific traffic complaints can also send a request for enforcement via our website.
