PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- A man who approached police about finding a place to stay overnight ended up in jail after a bizarre series of events that end with an arrest inside an IHOP restaurant.
According to Punta Gorda Police, the man approached two officers in the police station's back parking lot Monday night, looking for a place to spend the night.
During their conversation, the man, who has not been identified by police, indicated to the officers that he had illegal drugs in his vehicle and told them where to find them.
While the officers searched the vehicle, the suspect began stripping his clothes off and began to flee the scene. After a brief chase, the man was apprehended in an IHOP restaurant a block away.
The man was taken to the Charlotte County Jail.
