The Collier County Sheriff's Office is implementing a program that could have a significant impact on illegal immigrants. The 287(g) program would allow Collier deputies to act essentially as immigration agents. Some concerned citizens believe this program will allow deputies to infringe on people's rights. There will be a meeting at 1:00 on Monday afternoon to discuss the program. This meeting is open to the public.

A local group plans to hold a protest ahead of the meeting. Collier Freedoms says they will start their protest at 12:00 pm on Monday and then attend the meeting. Other civil rights groups like the Collier County Chapter of the NAACP, the Southwest Florida Justice for all Coalition, and the American Civil Liberties Union also plan to attend the protest.
