FORT MYERS, Fla. — Governor DeSantis recently signed a bill legalizing smokeable medical marijuana. So we take you to a dispensary in Fort Myers, where it's already available.
“I didn’t feel like I had any purpose of being alive.” Brittany Lengyel was in a car accident on September 22, 2015. “I was upside down underwater in the median of 75, and strapped in.”
Doctors told her she suffered severe head trauma. It took three complicated surgeries to get her on the road to recovery. She says the third one was when she started to see progress. “I instantly felt better…but I was still in excruciating pain.”
After doing extensive research, she found something that finally eased her pain. She says CBD oil and other byproducts of medical marijuana.
After three days of treatment, Lengyel says she had absolutely no pain. “And I hadn’t felt that way since September 22, 2015.”
Pain is a reason many head to dispensaries like one in Fort Myers.
Last month, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a new bill allowing smoking medical marijuana in Florida. That means patients with a card can purchase full bud product. “There are large buds that you then take home, you grind, and you know, treat yourself from here”, says Michelle Terrell, Director of Sales & Marketing at Curaleaf Florida.
Curaleaf is one of two dispensaries statewide who have received their license from the Department of Health to dispense the product. She says giving patients access to the bud allows for the purest form of treatment. “The most natural way to medicate with cannabis is in its most natural way…the way God intended it to be.”
The Department of Health has a designated website to help answer questions about smoking medical marijuana.
