FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A convenience store employee told investigators that she found a card skimmer device on a gas pump in Gateway on Friday.

It was at the 7-Eleven store on Gateway Boulevard at Griffin Drive.

The employee says that she was doing visual inspections on the pumps that morning and noticed tampering on Pump #4. A technician with Guardian Fuel Tech was notified and he found a skimmer device inside the pump.

Authorities were notified of the device.

The employee says the device may have been there for several days, even though they inspect the pumps daily.

Consumers who suspect that a gas pump has been tampered with should contact the gas station manager and file a complaint with FDACS. You can file a complaint online or by calling 1-800-HELP-FLA (435-7352) or, for Spanish speakers, 1-800-FL-AYUDA (352-9832)..
