Byron Sellers and Daymi Giron have been singing together for 9 years, they cover a wide range of genres, and enjoy the beauty of music.

But they say it isn’t what makes them whole. What does, is their 5-year-old son, Skyler. Skyler is a kid full of energy and laughter, Skyler also has autism. He was diagnosed when he was 2 years old. During the time he was diagnosed, Sellers and Giron hit a wall and stopped playing music.

“We quit, we thought it was the end of the world, what are we going to do now, she was not working hardly, I was barely going to work,” Sellers said.

As the years past, the couple says something clicked, and they say they realized his autism wasn’t something they had to hit the pause button for. So they picked up the guitar, microphone, and started their band, the ‘The Heart Attack Guns.' Their inspiration and reason for playing - Skyler.

“He has autism so he inspired us to go up to his level to figure out what he’s thinking,” Sellers said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 1 in 59 kids is diagnosed with autism. For this musical family, they explained they want other families to embrace it.

“It’s not a clutch, it is something that they have, regardless you have to find a way to help in life,” said Giron.

The family is looking to start a non-profit and hope to host a fundraiser featuring local bands to help Raise money for families with children who have autism in SWFL next spring.
