FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Florida Senator Rick Scott announced efforts to reduce the cost of prescription drugs in Florida on Friday.
He made his announcement at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, before heading to Lake Okeechobee to join President Trump as he tours the area.
Senator Scott says the costs of prescription drugs are way too high, causing some to forgo treatment due to not being able to afford the medicine.
"We gotta reduce the cost of prescription drugs. They're too high. It's hurting too many families. There's too many people that can't afford them. We're appreciative of all the innovations of the pharmaceutical industry, but the prices have to come down. It's just ridiculous," said Scott.
He says he has introduced the Transparent Drug Pricing Act, which would require pharmacies to let patients know what drugs would cost out of pocket, and also prohibit drug companies from charging Americans more for drugs than people in other industrialized countries pay for the same drugs.
