LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Lee County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday approved a resolution to rename a section of Interstate 75 in honor of Lieutenant Daniel Hinton, a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper who passed away during training earlier this year.
The board voted 4-0 in favor of the resolution, which will designate the section of I-75 between mile markers 130 and 133 as "Lieutenant Daniel Hinton Memorial Highway."
The section sits between the Daniels Parkway and Colonial Boulevard exits in Fort Myers.
Sgt. HInton died on February 19, 2019 when he suffered a fatal heart attack while participating in a training exercise. He served 32 years at the Fort Myers Florida Highway Patrol Station.
