Out on the water with no fuel and no way to get help; that's what happened to four boaters who went out cruising Thursday night. The Coast Guard searched in the wee hours of the morning, not finding them until around 7:30 in the following morning.
Captain Quincy Eagle of the Seatow says it's important to have a back-up plan because anything can happen when you're out on the water. He says you can get out of almost any boating emergency if you're prepared. A life vest is essential, and so is a Marine Signal Kit.
"If you find yourself thinking you need to signal another vessel, you have the opportunity to do so", he told Fox 4.
Captain Quincy showed Four in Your Corner the different additions to a boat that could safe a life in an emergency situation. If you find yourself stranded like the boaters Fox 4 previously reported on, having a form of communication is key.
One suggestion is a personal beacon communicator.
"It communicates, with the satellite radio signal and it will alert the Coast Guard to your exact location.".
Captain Quincy says that the best way to avoid having to make any sort of emergency call is to make sure you boat is fueled up before you go in the water.
