PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- Charlotte County deputies have arrested the man they say caused a deadly hit and run in Punta Gorda a little over a week ago.

Deputies say 30-year-old Thomas Lambie, III was driving a Ford F-150 on Riverside Drive on January 9th with a bicyclist ahead of him.

The report says Lambie hit the man on the bicycle, 44-year-old Robert Hurst. Deputies say he then drove away.

Hurst was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital and later pronounced deceased.

They impounded Lambie's truck the next day, but he was not arrested until January 17th.

He is charged with a first-degree felony for leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

Troopers remind the public that the most important thing a driver can do when involved in a crash is to remain on scene and call for help. Staying on scene will not only spare a driver from significant leaving the scene legal penalties, it may save a life.
