Charlotte County, Fla. — Florida troopers are looking for the driver of a 2001 Ford F-150 wanted for killing a bicyclist near Riverside Drive and Dutch Avenue Thursday night.

Florida Highway Patrol announced Friday they have the pick-up truck involved in their custody, but are still looking to arrest the driver for leaving a fatal crash.

Kim Small lives about 50 feet away from where the crash happened and said she hopes FHP finds the person who did this.

“I can’t tell you how saddened we are to know that someone would hit someone on a bicycle, going down the road,” she said. “Knowing that they hit them, and not turn themselves in, not stop not say, hey, let me help you.”

Troopers have not released the victim’s name because his family has not been notified as of Friday evening.

FHP Lieutenant Greg Bueno said whoever was driving that pickup truck made a bad situation worse for themselves.

“Once you make that poor choice - you depart a scene - that is a criminal offense,” he said.

If you have any information, you can call FHP or SWFL Crime Stoppers.
