LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The Lee County School District has named the principal for a new high school planned to open in 2021.

The district announced Neketa Watson has been appointed the principal of a yet-to-be-named high school to be built on Griffin Drive in the Gateway community.

Watson is a veteran administrator at the district who started as a teacher in 2001 and is the current principal at Lehigh Acres Middle School.

As Principal, Watson will help lead the process of choosing a school name, school colors and school mascot. She will also help oversee school construction, staff hiring and academic programming.

Cyber Security, Veterinary Assisting, Medical Assisting and Culinary have previously been announced as the school’s first four academies.

Construction of the new campus will begin later this year, and open to students in August 2021. The school’s first freshman class will begin attending classes in August 2020 in portables at Lehigh Senior High School.
