FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — Organizers presented the possibility of bringing powerboat racing back to Fort Myers Beach.
The proposal was discussed during April 1st town council meeting.
Tim Hill, an organizer of the powerboat competition, says they were approached by the Offshore Powerboat Association (OPA) about doing the powerboat racing on Fort Myers Beach.
Hill hopes to bring revenue to Fort Myers Beach through powerboat events, with the first official event being held the weekend of October 12th.
The organizers discussed an opportunity to donate any extra funds through sponsorship, back to the community.
The council asked that the organizers keep them up to date on the event but overall looked forward to the powerboat racing.
