UPDATE (1:45PM) -- LCEC has advised that power has been restored to the impacted areas from earlier today on the eastern and central areas of the Island. The Verizon Service is also restored.

SANIBEL, Fla. -- The City of Sanibel is reporting widespread outages of electricity and and cellular service Friday afternoon.
According to the city, approximately 1100 LCEC customers are without power in the eastern and central portions of the island.
LCEC's outage map reports even more without power, saying 2800 customers are without power.
The cause of the outage is unknown at this time.
They also report that Verizon's cellular and data service may be impacted as well.
