CAPE CORAL, Fla — FOX 4 has received calls from viewers sharing their concerns about a local president of the Peace River conference of Pop Warner Football being arrested.

Many of you are concerned that he was arrested but could still be around children.

So we took the time to look into the situation.

Cape Coral Police arrested Mike Elg on Sunday.

According to the police report, CCPD responded to a disturbance, and the victim told them she and ELG got into an argument.

The victim says he started choking her, and he released her neck after she scratched him in the face.

She also says he locked her in a bedroom.

Elg is facing Battery (Commit Domestic Battery by Strangulation) and Kidnap-False Imprisonment (Adult).

We have reached out to the Pop Warner Peace River Conference for comment.

Pop Warner Region Director Dennis B. Connors confirmed Mike Elg, president of The Peace River Conference, was arrested for battery and kidnapping (domestic issue).

He has been removed from all participation in the program, pending on the outcome.

Connors says if the charges are dropped, or there is a finding of not guilty, he can apply again for reinstatement.

If Elg is found guilty or pleads no contest, he will be suspended for a minimum of 5 years.

After five years, he can apply for reinstatement to the program but would not be restored to the position of League President, however.
