NAPLES, Fla. — The Collier County Sheriff's office wants to warn you about a recent increase in utility trailer thefts.
The majority have been reported in Golden Gate Estates. Thieves usually target trailers to resell them or use them for their own business.
If the trailers are recovered, it can be hard to return them to the owners because they aren't registered. Every trailer has a unique vehicle identification number, but owners usually don't keep a record of it.
Just a reminder to keep your trailer locked, parked in a well-lit area or near cameras, and record the VIN number.
