CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- Publix employees are getting recognition from Punta Gorda Police after preventing a customer from getting scammed.
Tuesday, a woman went to the store on Tamiami Trail after getting a call that her grandson was in jail in another country.
The caller told her to transfer $1,000 to get him out. The employees told the woman it sounded like a scam and to call police.
The woman later found out that her grandson was not in jail.
Police want to remind you to give them a call if you do get a suspicious call like this.
