CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- Two Punta Gorda Police officers are being commended for their efforts to help a soccer referee during a medical emergency last week.
According to Punta Gorda Police, on December 12th, the referee at a high school soccer game collapsed on the field.
Thankfully, Officer Chris Owensby, an SRO at Charlotte High, was on scene working as an extra-duty officer for the game. Also present was Officer Terry Chow, an SRO at Punta Gorda Middle, who was attending the game while off duty.
The officers leaped to action, performing CPR while waiting for EMS to respond. At one point the patient stopped breathing, and a defibrillator was used to get the patient to resume breathing.
The patient was taken to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
