North Port man accused of stabbing and gun threats in a domestic disturbance

NORTH PORT, Fla. — Police say a North Port man stabbed one victim and assaulted another before threatening them both with a gun during a domestic disturbance Wednesday night.

On March 31, at about 8:14 p.m., officers responded to William Arthur Byron's home on Neighborly Court, where a woman says she and Byron had an altercation in which he grabbed her by the hair and punched her on her side. She says the victim intervened and Byron went to his bedroom and came back to her room with a knife and stabbed the victim.

The victim was airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with multiple stab wounds.

According to reports, the victim says he was stabbed by Byron three times with a military-style knife before Byron came back into the room and threatened him and the woman with a 9mm gun and they left.

Investigators located the knife and gun on the property with a search warrant.

Byron, 74, was arrested and is facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and simple battery domestic.

The victim is in stable condition.
