NAPLES, Fla. -- For Tim and Susan Canter, August 21 started out pretty normally.

“She just sent me a text saying ‘on my way to work hun love you.’ She does it every morning, ‘I’m on my way to work hun, love you.’ Every single morning, never fails,” said Tim, “And I always text her back ‘have fund hun, make us proud, love you.’ But that text was never opened, that’s how fast it happened.”

But around around 7 a.m. things took a turn, when Susan was hit by a car.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Susan Canter was walking on 106th Avenue North in Naples when the accident happened.

Tim says the driver left her for dead. “There’s an impression in the grass where she laid for about 20 minutes, maybe 30 before a passerby saw her, found her and called and got help,” said Tim.

She’s now at Lee Memorial Hospital in serious condition. “She’s upstairs with a broken back, broken leg, broken ribs, bleeding liver, bleeding spleen, broken neck bones,” said Tim.

Tim says more than anything he’s in shock, but he is speaking publicly to warn others and hopefully find whoever did this. “To leave somebody, to hit somebody and know that you did it and to see them lying there and to purposefully and willfully leave the scene, it’s unthinkable,” said Tim.

The Florida Highway Patrol says parts of a headlight were left behind at the scene and say the vehicle should have front end damage and a broken headlight. They are still investigating.
