LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Since Toys “R” Us closed earlier this year, it’s had an impact on Toys For Tots locations across the country.

That’s according to the Associated Press. Toys “R” Us shopper donated more than 250,000 toys in 2017, and they also gave $5 million in contributions. For example, in Orlando, donations are down 25% to Toys for Tots. But in Lee County, it’s a different story this holiday season. 35,000 toys were donated to more than 10,000 kids.

“We did lose that funding source, but Lee county stepped up to the plate,” said Toys For Tots Local Community Organizer, Patricia Kucik. “You can’t put a price on this to how good it makes you feel to give back to the community.”

Kucik said 8 volunteers got the job done this year, by hosting plenty of events and working long hours to get plenty of kids those well deserved toys for the holidays.
