New charges after baby's death

Posted

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.-- 24-year-old Maria Antonio-Jose is now facing additional charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child and aggravated child abuse after a baby died from injuries sustained under her supervision.

Lee County Deputies say Antonio-Jose was watching her friend's baby on May 15, 2018. That same say, she called the baby's mother and said the baby choked on milk and wasn't breathing.

However, doctors say that's not what happened. The doctor from Golisano Children's Hospital said the baby suffered a traumatic injury, inconsistent with Antonio-Jose's claims.

The baby died June 19, 2018, which is why additional charges were filed.
