CAPE CORAL, Fla. — One Cape Coral home is condemned and at least a dozen have serious damage after a tornado touched down early this morning.

The NWS in Ruskin confirms that an EF-1 tornado with a path length of 1.03 mi and 100 yards wide occurred around 645 AM in the area of 26th Ave. The tornado only lasted about 2 minutes before lifting.

Neighbors speak with Fox 4 about their experience this morning,

“I thought there was an actual jet getting ready to land right here, that’s what it sounded like...the roar and it kept getting louder and louder” said Jack Stevenson.

“I said what’s going on because she was in the living room when she heard that noise, everything keep going *kapow*,” said Roland Pierre.

“We thought it was a truck outside because its too early and you don’t think these things can happen,” said Carol Marchak.

Another neighbor shared with us that he first heard about the storm on the news this morning. His father-in-law's home was right in the middle of the tornado's path.

“Like a hand grenade went off in there. The pool cadge is missing, the chain link fence is missing, the shed in the backyard is missing. I mean its incredible how much is just gone” said Dale Brelind.

In times like this united we stand, divided we fall, even people who weren't directly hit by the storm were out to lend a helping hand.

“I am going to make sure that everybody is okay, because we have a really great community, and really great neighbors and we all check on each other” said Carol Marchak.
